Acid washing is used to remove carbonate scale, detritus, and clay build up from downhole equipment, cleans water aquifers also cleans well screens that get clogged and slow down water production.
Over time, water well screens, filter packs, and adjacent aquifer materials can accumulate a buildup of biofilm or mineral encrustations, resulting in degradation of the production. Regular cleaning and disinfection are necessary to ensure water quality and longevity to the water supply system.
Properly constructed and maintained water well systems are designed to keep microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, and protozoa from getting inside the well system and into the water. When a water test indicates the presence of microorganisms in a well, disinfection of the well system is recommended along with some level of inspection.
Water wells must be kept at a proper height above ground level to avoid harmful contamination form getting into the well and contaminating the aquifer.
